On behalf of the North Shore Sportsman’s League we wish to pass on our deepest condolences on the recent passing of John Barrett.
To say John was a larger than life character would be an understatement. He will always be remembered as a great referee and mentor but John’s skill as a referee was surpassed by his positive influence on the players who were fortunate enough to experience his on the field style of ‘fair but firm’. Who will ever forget hearing these words in his kind-hearted Scottish brogue, “Come here Son . . .”
John was Co-chair of NSSL for many years and his dedication to our league was never-ending. His presence both on and off the pitch will be deeply missed.
So it is with heavy hearts we say goodbye to our long time friend.
Rest in Peace John.
